Chemical Properties	clear colorless to yellow liquid
Uses	N,N,N'',N''-Tetramethyl-1,6-hexanediamine is used in the synthesis of fluorene containing poly(arylene ether sulfone) as anion exchange membranes for alkaline fuel cells.
Preparation	N,N,N',N'-Tetramethyl-1,6-hexanediamine can be made from adipodinitrile and dimethylamine or from 1,6- hexanediamine and formaldehyde.

Solubility in organics	The amine is infinitely miscible with water, methanol, acetone, ether, and benzene, but insoluble in heptane. Because of its reactivity, CCl4 cannot be used as solvent. N,N,N',N'-Tetramethyl-1,6-hexanediamine (DETA) is hygroscopic and has a strong ammoniacal odor.
